Tom Cruise came to support Glen Powell and Edgar Wright for the release of Running Man
A Top Gun: Maverick reunion to once again defend the theatrical cinema experience.
It has become a tradition. When the cinema is in danger, Tom Cruise comes out of his lair to lend a hand to his friends. This time, it’s for the upcoming release of the new Running Man (November 19 in France) that the superstar gave of his image.
The opportunity to support your partner Top Gun: MaverickGlen Powell, who stars in the blockbuster. “Another great evening at the cinema with my friends! Guys, you did it, congratulations! I laughed, I was on the edge of my seat and I ate way too much popcorn“, said the actor, sharing photos from the screening on his Instagram account, where Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Emilia Jones and Edgar Wright were also present.
Cruise probably also came to see if Powell had listened to his “running man” advice. The latter confided in an interview that he spoke at length on the telephone with his elder during the preparation of the film:
“I thought it would be a 10 minute film and it lasted 2 hours, basically he explained to me how not to die! He also gave me running lessons. He said to me: ‘You should film yourself running because you don’t look as cool as you think you do.’ He was completely right!“
Even though he signed a contract with Warner Bros., which will distribute his new film directed by Alejandro Gonzales Iñárritu, Tom Cruise is showing his loyalty to Paramount Pictures, which is producing this remake of Running Man. A studio with which he experienced some of his greatest successes, despite a few hiccups. We remember that he was fired like a mess in 2006 before mending his way to Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011).
In these complicated times for Hollywood at the box office, it is also essential solidarity for the future of cinema in theaters. And director Edgar Wright, who benefited from a budget of $110 million for his film, appreciated this gesture:
“The Running Man went to the movie Running Man. Mr Tom Cruise came to see the film yesterday with popcorn in hand and it was a pleasure to have him with us. He’s one of the most passionate advocates of the big screen experience, so make sure you see our film on as many screens as possible.”
