Shōgun will continue: Disney Plus considers season 2 and even season 3

Shōgun season 2 will begin filming in January 2026

The Japanese saga of Disney Plus will resume ten years later…

The Shōgun machine moves forward again.

After winning 18 Emmy Awards – an absolute record for a single season – the historic FX and Disney+ phenomenon is preparing its season 2, filming of which will begin in January 2026, in Vancouver.

Alongside the two headliners, Hiroyuki Sanada (Emmy for Best Actor for his role as Toranaga) and Cosmo Jarvis, we will find Fumi Nikaidô, Shinnosuke Abe, Hiroto Kanai, Yoriko Dôguchi, Tommy Bastow, Yuko Miyamoto, Eita Okuno and Yuka Kouri, all returning in their respective roles.

The series also welcomes several newcomers: Asami Mizukawa (“Aya”), Masataka Kubota (“Hyūga”), Sho Kaneta (“Hidenobu”), Takaaki Enoki (“Lord Ito”) and Jun Kunimura (“Gōda”).

In the first season, Lord Yoshii Toranaga fought for his survival, caught in the grip of the machinations of the Council of Regents. The arrival of the English pilot John Blackthorne had upset the balance of power, offering Toranaga the strategic keys that allowed him to win the civil war.

The second part of Shōgun takes place 10 years after the initial events and continues this fresco inspired by historical facts: two men from opposite worlds, but whose destinies remain irremediably linked.

Two key directors from the first season return: Hiromi Kamata and Takeshi Fukunaga. They will be joined by Anthony Byrne, Kate Herron (Loki) and Justin Marks, who will also direct several episodes.

Season 2 of Shōgun will be broadcast exclusively on Disney+, on a date still unknown.
