Guru Pierre Niney already attracts 120,000 spectators in theaters

For its first day, Yann Gozlan’s societal thriller was a hit.

This is, factually, the best first day of 2026 yet. With 70,000 entries recorded this Wednesday on some 600 screens, added to the 50,000 previews, Guru has already passed 120,000 spectators (an excellent average of 120 tickets sold per copy). Pierre Niney still shows his power of attraction after the phenomenon Monte Cristo. Moreover, for comparison, Alexandre Dumas’ adaptation clocked 125,000 entries (but with less AVP) after its first day in June 2024. Proof that Guru off to a flying start.

Moreover, Yann Gozlan’s latest thriller with Pierre Niney, Black boxdid three times less well for its debut in 2021 (42,000 admissions after the first day), before finishing at 1.2 million spectators.

On these bases, we can already guess that Guru will be a millionaire at the French box office. It remains to be seen whether the buzz will succeed in building up to make the counters soar Monte Cristo.

Because competition is strong at the moment in theaters. Beyond the Kremlin Mage (who had the best first day of the year, including AVP, before Guru), several other expected releases mark interesting debuts in French cinemas this week.

The animated film The Legendaries by Guillaume Ivernel is in second place at the box office with 51,074 admissions (largely boosted by previews). The historical film Nuremberg completes the podium: Russell Crowe, in the role of Goering tried for his crimes, displays 18,000 entries after his first day.

A little further, we find Found guiltywhich marks the return of Chris Pratt in a sci-fi thriller about AI, and La Graziathe latest Paolo Sorrentino worn by Toni Servillo, which attracted 8,000 curious people.
