HBO announces release date for Harry Potter series

We know (roughly) when the new adaptation of the little wizard will arrive on our small screens.

As the Harry Potter series continues production, HBO is beginning to refine its launch plans for this new television adaptation of JK Rowling’s fantasy novels. The president and boss of HBO and HBO Max content specifies the date today:

“We’ve been saying 2027 since the start of production,” Casey Bloys first recalled in an interview with Deadline. Before tightening the window a little more:

“I would say, to be more precise, early 2027. And then you will ask me if that means January, February, March, April… but we are not ready to say that. I will simply say: early 2027.”

A clarification which marks a new stage in communication around the project. Casey Bloys had already mentioned a potential schedule in September 2024, speaking then of a release “late 2026-2027”, while tempering: “The writers are just starting, so it’s too early to talk about a broadcast date.”

Since then, the machine has started: writing, casting, then start of production… and, logically, the posted date remained set at 2027. Now, HBO is officially tightening the noose: Harry Potter will arrive at the beginning of the year 2027, without further details for the moment.

The new cast: Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton will play Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout will play Ron Weasley. Alongside them, John Lithgow (Dumbledore), Paapa Essiedu (Snape) and Janet McTeer (McGonagall) complete a cast mixing new faces and established figures.
