“Stormwind”: the turbulent child of Baz Lurhmann and Sofia Coppola (review)

Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi take over the US box office thanks to Stormwind

Emerald Fennell’s Victorian drama is expected to have an excellent start to over $40 million in North America.

Valentine’s Day weekend (obviously) took a romantic turn at the US box office.

Stormwinda torrid melodrama carried by Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, takes the lead with already 33 million dollars in revenue on 3,682 screens in North America and is targeting 40 million over 4 days, since it is a long weekend across the Atlantic, this Monday being a holiday for the President’s Day.

Internationally, the film is also off to a stronger start: $42 million in 76 territories, representing a worldwide launch that will exceed $80 million. This is good news for Stormwindwhose budget rises to $80 million (excluding its XXL promo).

It should be noted that Netflix had offered $150 million for a direct platform release of its adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel. Polite refusal: the team preferred less money but a worldwide cinema release with Warner Bros. A winning bet for the moment.

Behind Stormwind, this is the sports animated film GOAT which opened to $26 million ($32 million estimated over 4 days) + $15.6 million outside America, for a total of $47.6 million worldwide.

A decent start for this original creation, a terrain that has become a challenge even for Pixar. Produced by Stephen Curry, NBA star, with Sony Pictures Animation for $80 million, the studio hopes for a long-term Migration Or The Wild Robot.

Crime 101 takes the third step of the podium. The heist thriller starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo and Barry Keoghan disappoints: $17.7 million for a budget of $90 million. The film does not yet have a release date in France.

Finally, we note that Sam Raimi’s survival horror fell after two weeks in the lead.

Rachel McAdams and Dylan O’Brien add $9 million this weekend ($10.7 million estimated over 4 days). Since its release three weeks ago, Send Help earned 50 million in North America and 75 million worldwide. Honest, for a film that cost a $40 million budget.
