Jeff Daniels returns to the world of fictional journalism.

The former hero of The Newsroom, crowned at the Emmy Awards, has been confirmed in the cast of The Morning Show for its season 5. The 71-year-old actor will play Lukas, described as “a self-made billionaire and founder of a famous investment company”. This is a recurring role.

Jeff Daniels currently plays Jimmy’s (Jason Segel) father Randy on the current season of Shrinking on Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ had renewed The Morning Show, with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, for season 5 in September 2025.

Season 4, with Marion Cotillard as a guest star, ended in November 2025.

The series’ cast also includes Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Karen Pittman, Nicole Beharie and Jon Hamm.
