Young Sherlock: filming for season 2 could begin soon

The producers are in the starting blocks and are just waiting for the green light from Prime Video.

Good news for Young Sherlock fans. Despite the absence of an official announcement, the producers already seem to be preparing the continuation of the series.

Since its launch on March 4 on Prime Video, the series has ranked in the top 10 on the platform. A success which logically fuels hopes for a season 2, even if it has not yet been officially ordered.

In an interview with Deadline, executive producer Simon Maxwell confirmed that the team was already working behind the scenes on new stories in the Sherlock universe. The producers have even started to identify filming locations for the next season.

“We know that, in terms of the origin story and the coming-of-age story, we have only told the first stage. The series was clearly designed to last several seasons.”

The first season notably explores the unexpected relationship between Sherlock Holmes and James Moriarty. An astonishing friendship, when we know the fate of the two characters.

“We want to follow over time the journey that each of these characters will undertake… By bringing Sherlock and Moriarty together in the same story and presenting them as friends, we implicitly promise the public that we will show them how they become enemies,” adds the producer.

The series features Hero Fiennes Tiffin in the role of a teenage Sherlock Holmes, long before he became the most famous detective in the world. His first investigation draws him into an “international conspiracy” which leads him to an explosive confrontation, destined to change his life forever.

Created by Matthew Parkhill, the series is inspired by the novels The First Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Andrew Lane – themselves based on the famous character imagined by Arthur Conan Doyle – which span 8 volumes (published between 2010 and 2015 in France). Suffice to say that there is material… And even if season 2 is not yet officially validated, the team already seems ready:

“It is too early to say that the series has received the green light, but the main team is assembled and we are in the first stages of preparation. Under the leadership of Matthew, we have started to build the story of season 2” adds Simon Maxwell, who hopes that Guy Ritchie will return to direct the first episode of season 2: “The idea is clearly that Guy comes back to launch this new season with us.” To be continued…
