Three great little films to watch for free for the 2026 Short Film Festival
Nearly 20,000 screenings are organized in France and internationally during the event, which takes place from March 25 to 31.
The 2026 Short Film Festival kicked off this Wednesday. An exceptional event dedicated to this small format which reveals the great filmmakers of tomorrow, which has the particularity of going beyond the usual circuits to reach out to all audiences. Schools, hospitals, cinemas, penitentiary establishments and even cultural places: for a week, the short film takes over all territories. Visit the event website to discover the program.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, La Fête du court has joined forces with Première to offer you the opportunity to discover three striking French short films free of charge on our site, illustrating the diversity and richness of this laboratory of the 7th art.
Omnibus by Sam Karmann (1992)
Palme d’Or, BAFTA and Oscar for best short film! That year, for his very first stint as director, Sam Karmann, the future director of Kennedy & me had won everything, in France and abroad. A collection of well-deserved awards for this film with perfect mechanics following the misadventures of a man risking losing his job if the train which takes him there does not maintain its usual stop which has just been canceled without his being informed. The standard measure of film, often copied, rarely equaled.
Pitchoune by Reda Kateb (2014)
In 2015, Reda Kateb made her notable debut behind the camera with Pitchounepresented at the Cannes Film Festival as part of the Directors’ Fortnight. In this lovely film full of humanity, Kateb plays a host who announces to his partner (Philippe Rebbot) that he is tired of being a clown. A preview of his first feature film released in 2024, On the Wire, taking place in the world of clowns, but this time in a hospital (still with the faithful Rebbot).
Mom(s) by Maïmouna Doucouré (2015)
It was in 2015 that we discovered Maïmouna Doucouré with her second short film, selected in more than 200 festivals around the world and awarded a César. The story of an 8-year-old little girl, living in the Paris suburbs, who sees her life and that of her mother turned upside down the day her father returns from Senegal, their country of origin, with a young woman whom he presents as his second wife. A largely autobiographical story which laid the foundations for his first feature, also multi-celebrated five years later, Cute.
