Josh Brolin protests Denis Villeneuve’s absence at the 2025 Oscars
The actor had threatened to stop everything if ever… “Apparently, I’m going to stop my acting career because Denis Villeneuve hasn’t been nominated!”
Will we no longer see Josh Brolin on the screens? Will the 56-year-old actor take early retirement? “If Denis Villeneuve isn’t nominated this year for Dune 2, I’ll stop playing!” had threatened Josh Brolin a few weeks ago.
There you go, it’s now official: Denis Villeneuve is not nominated for the Oscar for Best Director. He was snubbed, like three years ago for the first part of Dune. At the time, Josh Brolin had already made a big rant claiming that it was “completely stupid” for ignoring him.
This time, he moderates his words. On Instagram, Josh Brolin first of all congratulates the producers of Dune 2 for their nomination for the Best Film award and “Greig Fraser for his nomination for Best Cinematography, for Best Visual Effects, and Patrice (Vermett) for Production Design and Sound.”. Then he laughs:
“Apparently, I’m going to stop my acting career because Denis Villeneuve hasn’t been nominated. That’s how it is… But hey, all that doesn’t make any sense to me. It doesn’t matter. Joe Walker (the editor) and Denis, you deserved it. It’s an incredible film. Even better than the first one. The others who received praise (with these nominations) certainly deserve it too. from Dune 2. And Congratulations to everyone.”
Another director, Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), is surprised at the absence of Denis Villeneuve of these appointments, after his work which he describes as “masterful” on Dune 2 :
There were many films that had great directing this year but what Denis did — in all aspects of the craft — was masterful
