The Batman Part 2: Scarlett Johansson in, Zoë Kravitz out

The former Black Widow of the Marvel Universe could move to the competing team. And take Catwoman’s place as the new female lead.

Small earthquake in the universe of superheroes!

The Batman 2 has not even started filming yet and fans are already on edge: according to the American press, Scarlett Johansson is on the verge of joining the sequel to the film dedicated to the hero of Gotham, while Zoë Kravitz will not be returning to the role of Selina Kyle. A tectonic movement for the dark universe shaped by Matt Reeves.

Scheduled for 2027, The Batman 2 will obviously put Robert Pattinson behind the mask. But alongside him, we could therefore see Scarlett Johansson land in what would be the biggest transfer to date from Marvel to DC. This is not the first time that this has happened (Idris Elba, for example, went from Heimdall to Thor at Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad). But Scarlett Johansson is a figure of Avengersone of the first stars of the MCU and his arrival in the DCU would necessarily be a shock.

His role is, for the moment, completely kept under seal. But according to the American media, Johansson could embody the new love interest of Gotham’s most tortured billionaire. Several names are already circulating: Andrea Beaumont alias The Phantasm, Pamela Isley alias Poison Ivy, Vicki Vale or even Julie Madison. Powerful figures from the comics, each in their own way, and capable of profoundly reshaping the psychology of the Dark Knight.

Catwoman disappears into the night

And if Scar Jo arrives, it is also to fill the void left by Zoë Kravitz: the young star should not not return as Catwoman. The actress, who shone in the first film, crucial in the plot and very present in the final scene, would no longer be involved in the sequel! Which is already driving fans crazy on the networks.

Jeff Sneider (The InSneider) had already mentioned it: she “knows nothing” of The Batman 2. Because she didn’t want to come back or because production chose to leave her out? No explanation yet. But its absence undoubtedly explains the desire to completely revisit the emotional dynamic around Bruce.

For the moment, official information is still rare on the production of the film which should start next year. Matt Reeves, however, confirmed this week that Erik Messerschmidt was taking over from Greig Fraser as director of photography. Messerschmidt is particularly known for his work with David Fincher on Mank, The Killer and the Cliff Booth film currently being filmed.

The release of The Batman 2 is expected on October 1, 2027.
