After Booksmart And Don’t worry darlingactress and director Olivia Wilde returns with a black comedy. Joe and Angela have their neighbor couple over for dinner. As the evening wears on, tongues loosen, and little by little, the dinner which promised to be peaceful, turns into real madness between unexpected revelations and physical attractions…

The film boasts a 5-star cast with Pénélope Cruz and Edward Norton in the role of the mysterious neighbors, while Seth Rogen and Olivia Wilde will be the host couple. This is not the first time that the director has starred in one of her films: she was already featured in Don’t Worry Darling (in official selection at the 2022 Venice Film Festival).

The Invite is a remake of the Spanish feature film Sentimental by Cesc Gay, himself adapted from his play Los arriba vecinos. A play which has given rise to numerous cinematographic adaptations, including a French one by Wilfried Méance, And more if affinities.

Synopsis: “Joe and Angela don’t entertain often. Tonight, their mysterious upstairs neighbors are coming down for dinner. What follows is an evening of unexpected twists and turns, revealing deeply repressed emotions and unexplored sexuality.”

The Invite will be released on September 16, 2026 in French theaters.
