The Mummy Awakens scares no one at the US box office
Lee Cronin’s horror film starts slowly across the Atlantic, while Mario continues to collect gold coins, heading straight towards the billion.
The reign of Super Mario Galaxy, the movie continues.
For its third weekend in a row, the blockbuster from Universal Pictures and Illumination easily retains the lead at the American box office, with an additional $35 million. The sequel has grossed $355.2 million in the United States and has already grossed $747.5 million worldwide, consolidating its status as the biggest success of 2026.
At this rate, the billion is in the sights for Mario and Luigi and according to the American press, everything suggests that new Mario projects will quickly enter production, time for Nintendo to validate the next level.
Remember that the first part, Super Mario Bros. the moviehad made more than 500 million in North America and 1.3 billion dollars worldwide.
Behind, Last Chance Project (Amazon MGM Studios) also continues its impressive journey. For its fifth weekend, the sci-fi film adds $20.5 million and reaches a solid total of 285.1 million on American soil. Ryan Gosling in Space is approaching $600 million in global revenue. The blockbuster will thus be profitable for the studio which invested more than 200 million dollars (excluding promotion) in the production.
The two spring hits leave little room for the others. So The Mummy Awakens is very shy in American theaters. Released last Friday, Lee Cronin’s horror film had to settle for third place for its launch, with a lackluster start to $13.5 million. Produced by James Wan and Jason Blum via Atomic Monster and Blumhouse Productions, the film only cost $22 million and will therefore quickly pay for itself. But it is already clear that it will remain very far from the nearly 150 million collected by Evil Dead Risethe filmmaker’s previous success (in 2023). This new opus is in line with the duo’s rereadings of monsters, with uneven results, between the success of Invisible Man (144.5 million worldwide in 2020) and the failure of Wolf Man (35.2 million in 2025).
Finally, in fourth place, The Drama confirms its nice word of mouth.
The romantic madness carried by Zendaya and Robert Pattinson rakes in an additional 4.8 million dollars for a total of 40 million at the North American box office, more than 80 million worldwide!
An encouraging signal, especially since the two stars will meet again on screen this year in Dune 3 And The Odyssey in the coming months of 2026.
