Jessica Chastain announces that her series canceled by Apple will finally be released

The Savant, the political thriller postponed following the murder of Charlie Kirk, will soon see the light of day.

In September 2023, Apple TV announced that it was postponing The Savant project. “After careful consideration, we have decided to postpone The Savant. We thank you for your understanding and look forward to presenting the series to you soon,” declared the platform.

The series, inspired by an investigation published by Cosmopolitan in 2019, features an investigator, played by Jessica Chastain, who infiltrates extremist groups online, posing as a white nationalist, in order to prevent them from taking action. The saga directly denounces the rise of the American extreme right via social networks and its influencers…

But the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, on September 10, 2025 at the University of Utah, complicated things for this political thriller with an already very sensitive subject. The broadcast of the first two episodes was scheduled for September 26, 2025…

For her part, on Instagram, the star who is also one of the producers of the series had expressed her disagreement with Apple TV: “I have never avoided difficult subjects, and even if I would like this show not to be as topical, unfortunately, it is”, before adding: “(…) I respect Apple TV’s decision to postpone the series for the moment, I nevertheless hope that the show will soon reach its audience.”

But this April 18, on the red carpet of the Breakthrough Prize Ceremony, Chastain told Variety that The Savant would indeed see the light of day: “The series will come out.”

We will therefore find her as an incognito investigator, brunette and wearing dark glasses, who will try to detect domestic terrorism on the dark web…

Alongside the Oscar-winning actress, we will find Nnamdi Asomugha (Crown Heights), Pablo Schreiber, James Badge Dale and Cole Doman to complete the cast. Jessica Chastain and Asomugha had already been reunited on the set of Murders Without a Prescription.

Melissa James Gibson, the filmmaker nominated for several Emmy Awards (Anatomy of a Scandal, House of Cards, The Americans), created the series with Matthew Heineman, nominated in 2016 for the Oscar for best documentary for Cartel Land.

For the moment, no release date has been announced.
