Sebastian Stan and Ana de Armas reunite in Pinochet thriller

The film will tell the story of the arrest of Augusto Pinochet in London in 1998.

Sebastian Stan and Ana de Armas are about to share the poster for Impunitya spy thriller carried by Pathé during the Cannes Film Festival market these days.

Directed by Chilean filmmaker Felipe Gálvez, revealed with his western The Settlersthe film is inspired by a key moment in contemporary history: the arrest of Augusto Pinochet in London in 1998. For the first time, a former dictator could lose his immunity and be tried outside his own country.

Filmed between Chile, the United Kingdom and Spain, in English and Spanish, Impunity follows two secret operations carried out in parallel. On one side, a mercenary recruited by an NGO; on the other, a Chilean emissary. Both find themselves caught in a labyrinth of conspiracies, betrayals and geopolitical maneuvers, until they understand that the real battle for justice is not fought in the courts… but in the shadows.

The cast is completed by Alfredo Castro, Antonia Zegers and Alejandro Goic, important figures of Chilean cinema.

I grew up hearing unfinished stories, conversations interrupted by fear,” confides Felipe Gálvez to Variety. “With Impunity, I want to explore the erased pages of our history. Using the codes of the spy film, not to glorify conspiracies, but to show how justice can be negotiated, delayed, or even transformed into a spectacle.”

The film is adapted from the book 38 London Street by Philippe Sands, and will be produced by several international companies including Rei Pictures, Quiddity and Les Films du Worso for France. Impunity will also be distributed by Pathé. For Ardavan Safaee, president of Pathé Films, the film is already shaping up to be a strong work: “From the first reading, we were captivated by this gripping and sophisticated story, which illuminates unexpected truths, carried by the powerful performances of Sebastian Stan and Ana de Armas” he tells Variety.
