Matthew Perry’s Friends scripts sold at auction

A sale organized as part of an initiative carried out with the Matthew Perry Foundation, which fights against the stigma linked to addiction.

A little more than two years after his death, the heritage left by Matthew Perry will be sold at auction for a good cause.

Personal items that belonged to the actor, unforgettable Chandler from Friends, will be offered next month, as part of an initiative carried out with the Matthew Perry Foundation, which fights against the stigma linked to addiction.

Among the pieces on offer, Friends fans will find a collection of 26 scripts for cult episodes such as The One With Ross’s Tan, The One Where Joey Speaks French and the final double episode The Last One. Two other scripts signed by Matthew Perry and his on-screen partners – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc and David Schwimmer – will also be up for sale, the latter having been provided by Warner Bros.

Added to these objects is a photo album entitled The One With the Last Supper, accompanied by a letter signed “Jenny”, as well as a replica of the famous yellow frame hung around the peephole of Monica’s door.

Other notable objects will also be on offer, such as its Screen Actors Guild Award won in 1995 with the cast of Friends, as well as a collection of works of art including pieces by Banksy and Mel Bochner.

Organized by Heritage Auctions, the sale will begin on June 5 and its net profits will be donated to several initiatives, with a clear objective: to extend the actor’s commitment to better treatment of addictions. The funds will be used to support programs such as the Matthew Perry Foundation Fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, the Healing Appalachia Sober Festival, and grants to grassroots organizations.

Online auctions are already open, allowing collectors to position themselves before the main sale. The items will be on public display from May 18 to 29 in Heritage Auctions’ Beverly Hills showroom, before a final sale held both online and in person in Dallas on June 5.

“Matthew believed that addiction should be treated with compassion and science, not stigma and silence,” said Lisa Kasteler Calio, director of the foundation. “This sale helps continue this fight and ensures that no one has to face this disease alone.”

Matthew Perry, who long struggled with his addictions, died on October 28, 2023 after taking ketamine. This sale is part of the desire to continue his fight.
