Friends: for Lisa Kudrow, Rachel was right to dump Ross!

Were they, yes or no, “on a break”? “In the end, that’s not even the point: Ross was a bad boyfriend, period!”

The eternal debate “do we have a break or not do we have a break”?

Even nearly 30 years later, the issue continues to divide Friends fans. But for Lisa Kudrow, who played Phoebe, the subject is actually much simpler: the problem isn’t even the break between Ross and Rachel… it’s Ross himself.

Guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the actress added a piece to the debate machine around the cult couple flagship of the cult series. As soon as Jimmy Fallon mentions the famous breakup, Lisa Kudrow initially admits to being cautious:

“I’m afraid to talk about it now… But no, to me, they weren’t on a break. But ultimately, that’s not even the point: Ross was a bad boyfriend, period.”

Surprise on stage: the audience massively validates, supporting applause. Lisa Kudrow is surprised by the general reaction: “Oh, do you agree? That reassures me! Thank you all!”

She then drives the point home by returning to the couple’s legendary argument, always at the heart of fans’ discussions:

“We had the reunion five years ago… and we were all there saying ‘yes they were on break’, as if Rachel was hysterical at not letting Ross do what he wanted. The problem is elsewhere: it’s not a question of sleeping or not sleeping with someone else. It’s that she’s going through a crisis at work, she’s not available for a few days, and is totally freaking him out. That’s the real problem!”

And Lisa Kudrow concludes with an even more clear-cut position: “It doesn’t matter if he had slept with one or three people. The real problem is that he didn’t know how to manage a normal couple situation. And that’s unacceptable.”

Moreover, the actress suggests that even David Schwimmer makes the same unflattering reading of her character…
