Alexis Manenti defends Zar Amir in The Stranger: trailer
A portrait of a woman about a Syrian exile who meets a French lawyer.
Dark colors, the sea, a woman, a deserted country and an abandoned child: The Stranger delivers a visceral and moving trailer.
Syrian director Gaya Jiji returns with another drama and once again depicts her native land, through the trajectory of a migrant woman. Selma fled Syria for Bordeaux. She asks Jérôme, a lawyer who works opposite her restaurant, to help her find her son. An unexpected love story then takes shape between them… Lost between her budding feelings and her past, she finds herself caught up in a whirlwind where emotions and political issues mix.
In the casting we will find Alexis Manenti (Les Miserables) in the role of Jérôme, Zar Amir Ebrahimi (The Survivors, Shayda, Tatami) in that of Selma and Amr Waked (Urchin) will play the husband.
Gaya Jiji paints here a second portrait of a woman. But this time, she leaves Syria for France and stages an opposite itinerary: Selma has left while Nahla, the heroine of My favorite fabric, had remained.
Synopsis: “Selma flees Syria, leaving behind a six-year-old son and a husband who disappeared in the regime’s jails. Arriving in Bordeaux, she meets Jérôme, a lawyer who will help her in her efforts to obtain the right to asylum and find her son Rami. Their love story will call everything into question.”
The Stranger will be released on June 24 in cinemas in France.
