Box office France: The Electric Venus is a hit after its launch at Cannes 2026

Pierre Salvadori’s comedy gets off to a better start than Leaving a Day last year.

Driven by an excellent critical reception, The Electric Venus took advantage of its position as the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival. Released simultaneously in theaters, the comedy by Pio Marmaï, Anaïs Demoustier, Gilles Lellouche and Vimala Pons attracted 51,000 spectators in theaters this Tuesday, and another 29,000 this Wednesday, bringing its total to more than 80,000 admissions.

With this score, Pierre Salvadori’s film quietly beats Leave one daythe opening film of Cannes 2025 directed by Amélie Bonnin. A little over 60,000 curious people came to see the musical with Juliette Armanet and Bastien Bouillon. Which was already a success for this first feature film.

Obsession is the other sensation of the week’s releases. Curry Baker’s horror film, which tells the story of a shy guy’s nightmare after a romantic vow, attracted 20,000 spectators for its first day in theaters. And above all it displays by far the best average with its 239 copies.

He thus pushes back into third position Abandonment, the film by Vincent Garenq on the Samuel Patty affair (played by Antoine Reinartz) which sold just over 8,000 tickets. But be careful, the figure is misleading. The first sessions were scheduled in the evening, at the same time as its out-of-competition presentation at the Cannes Film Festival.
