After the end of The Boys, what we know about the new series on Soldier Boy

Vought Rising will continue the franchise by taking us back to the past. But what about the future?

Even though The Boys is over, the saga will continue.

What will be the next stage of the “Vought Universe”? The answer lies in one name: Vought Rising. The future Prime Video spin-off will focus on Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles, and seems to have already been quietly set up in the final episodes of season 5 of The Boys.

In an interview relayed by Screen Rant, Eric Kripke explains that several revelations from this final chapter serve as a foundation for the spin-off, particularly around Soldier Boy’s past and his relationship with Stormfront, otherwise known as Clara Vought (played by Aya Cash).

“I would never ask the audience to have sympathy for Stormfront. She’s a Nazi, and she’s horrible. But regarding Soldier Boy, I think it mostly shows that he had much deeper feelings for Clara than he let on before. And a lot of that will be explored in Vought Rising.”

The showrunner also promises to further explore the rivalry between Soldier Boy and Bombsight (played by Mason Dye), mentioned several times this season:

“You will understand the relationship and rivalry between Soldier Boy and Bombsight, as well as the reasons for their mutual hatred, much better in Vought Rising!”

Kripke specifies, however, that the spin-off will remain accessible to newcomers.

“But we’re still trying to find the right balance: providing context and a few winks to fans, without requiring viewers to have seen all of The Boys to enjoy Vought Rising. Besides, we’ve already tested the series with people who had never seen The Boys, and they liked Vought Rising as a standalone…”

In The Boys, the revelations surrounding the love story between Soldier Boy and Stormfront also serve to explain certain tensions with Homelander. But above all, they gradually establish the major themes of Vought Rising: the birth of Vought, the origins of modern superheroes and the old resentments that have run through this universe for decades.

A return to the past, and less a look towards the future, post-end of Homelander. Because Gen V was canceled after its season 2. The spin-off on the new generation will not have a season 3, which the creator regrets. In an interview with Variety, Eric Kripke explains that while Gen V won’t continue, some ideas could survive elsewhere.

“If we could have continued Gen V, we would have made it very clear in that finale that the torch was passing from Annie to Marie Moreau! She would have become the new positive superhero to follow. It didn’t happen, but I would really like to find a way to continue this story.”

Eric Kripke therefore had a plan after the end, disrupted by the cancellation of the spin-off series. And he reveals that there are still a lot of avenues to explore in this post-The Boys universe:

“It’s like a whole bunch of time bombs have been dropped. Stan Edgar takes over Vought but more or less gives up his superhero connections, so all these Supes who have been protected and pampered for years are suddenly left to fend for themselves in the wilderness. Who’s going to try to become a Jessica Jones? Who’s going to become a supervillain? It opens up some fascinating possibilities…”

So could a new series already be in the works? For now, only the prequel Vought Rising is in production. Filming finished a few weeks ago and its release is expected on Prime Video in 2027.
