Dwayne Johnson to play stuntman after Moana and Jumanji
“The Rock” moves away from blockbusters for a dramatic and intimate role, produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
After his Golden Globe nomination for The Smashing MachineDwayne Johnson therefore continues to explore more nuanced roles, far from his image of invincible hero.
Between two big-budget blockbusters, the actor will don the costume of an aging motorcycle stuntman in Free Byrda drama produced by Artists Equity, founded by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.
The film follows a Las Vegas stuntman specializing in motorcycle shows, who hides from those close to him that he suffers from dementia. As he attempts one last spectacular jump, he will have to confront his own limitations and agree to seek help before it’s too late. A story that explores the mysteries of the human brain and the difficulty of seeing a loved one gradually lose their bearings.
Behind the camera, we will find Greg Kwedar, the director of Sing Sing And Train Dreamswho will also rewrite the screenplay. The original story is by Jon Boyer and was included on the famous Black List of Hollywood’s most popular screenplays.
“Free Byrd is a gift in many ways. It speaks of the sacred beauty of life, but also of its sometimes harsh and unforgiving reality“, rejoices Dwayne Johnson, who recognizes that the subject became particularly personal during the development of the project with Greg Kwedar.
No release date. By then, The Rock will be at the cinema in Moana live then in Jumanji 3.
