Novel by Gaston Leroux published in 1910, The Phantom of the Opera has undergone numerous adaptations, including the cult Phantom of the Paradise by Brian de Palma (10974), but French cinema had never before tackled this monument of fantastic literature.
It’s done with this feature film by Alexandre Castagnetti (Love and Turbulence, Tamara), worn by Romain Duris, Deva Cassel, Julien de Saint Jean, Laïka Blanc-Francard, Guillaume Diop, Axel Auriant and Dorothée Gilbert. A modern and pop reinterpretation filmed in the real settings of the Palais Garnier, which will be released in cinemas on October 28.
Synopsis: In today’s Paris, Anastasia, a young dancer, joins the prestigious Opéra Garnier. While rehearsing Orpheus, a cursed opera said to have been composed by the Phantom of the Opera, she falls in love with a mysterious pianist. As the first performance approaches, between unexplained accidents and disturbing revelations, Anastasia finds herself plunged into an impossible love story, on the border of reality and fantasy.
Deva Cassel, the eldest daughter of Monica Bellucci and Vincent Cassel plays Anastasia. Julien De Saint Jean, the revelation of Count of Monte Cristoplays Ernest Dupré, the ghost, and Romain Duris the choreographer.
