Will Brand New Day be the last Spider-Man film with Tom Holland?

Vague statements which sow doubt on the future of the weaver. Brand New Day opens a new chapter… but not necessarily with the same headliner?

Four years ago, just after the release of Spider-Man: No Way HomeTom Holland had hinted that he was ready to hang up the Spider-Man costume. Finally convinced to come back for Spider-Man: Brand New Daythe British actor once again maintains the mystery about his future in the MCU.

Asked by Entertainment WeeklyTom Holland, Zendaya and Jacob Batalon all describe the film as the end of an era…and the beginning of another:

“It’s a Brand New Day, after all… that means a new day begins“, smiles Batalon. “We still need to know if this new day has really begun“, replies Zendaya. Holland, himself, remains deliberately enigmatic: “The truth is, this is the start of a new… thing. Spider-Man: Brand New Thing, if you will.”

In this fourth opus, Peter Parker attempts to rebuild his life after the events of No Way Homewho erased all traces of his existence from the world’s memory. Having become an anonymous hero, he watches MJ and Ned continue their lives without him, unable to find the place he once occupied.

For producer Amy Pascal, the heart of the film lies in this quest for identity. “It’s the story of someone who no longer wants to be himself, who dreams of being anyone else to fit in, before understanding that his difference is perhaps his greatest strength.” She also emphasizes that Brand New Day does not constitute a conclusion: “We absolutely do not see it as an end. It’s a beginning.”

But a start with Tom Holland? Nothing is less certain. Invited on the HugoDécrypte YouTube channel, the actor was questioned about a possible Spider-Man 5. His response was revealing to say the least: “I pass” (“I’m passing”), before glancing towards his team off-camera, without adding another word.

Brand New Day is not particularly definitive. It ends with an ending that leaves doors open.

But for now, Marvel has confirmed neither a fifth film with Tom Holland, nor even his presence in Avengers: Doomsdaywhile the weaver played a central role in the two previous Avengers. Fans assume he will (at least) be in Avengers: Secret Wars (in 2027), but again, nothing has been announced in this direction.

Especially since, while Tom Holland is preparing a biopic dedicated to Fred Astaire, Kevin Feige is increasing the allusions to the upcoming arrival of Miles Morales in the MCU. What is there to imagine a transfer of power?
