Ten years later, Jessica Biel returns in a film: Matchbox trailer

The American star co-stars in a new action comedy for Apple TV with John Cena.

After having abandoned the big screen for almost ten years, Jessica Biel finally makes her return in a feature film. The actress is starring in Matchboxthe blockbuster inspired by Mattel’s famous small cars, which will be released for streaming in a few weeks.

Made from the famous range of toys, Matchbox tells the story of a group of childhood friends whose daily lives are turned upside down when a former friend, now an undercover CIA agent (John Cena), resurfaces in their small town. Despite themselves, they find themselves embarked on a mission as explosive as it is improbable… to save the world.

While promoting the film at San Diego Comic-Con, Jessica Biel was surprised to discover that her last feature film already dates back to 2016, with Shock and Aweby the late Rob Reiner:

“My God, really 10 years?”reacted the actress interviewed by EW, before explaining what convinced her to come back: “It seemed like such a fun opportunity. I was inspired by this incredible cast. I also played with Matchboxes when I was a kid, so there was a real nostalgia there. And then I wanted to find an action film, a comedy, to learn to drive these incredible cars and to mix all these genres. It seemed like a wonderful adventure to me..”

Her partner Teyonah Parris was keen to point out that this absence from the big screen did not mean that she had stopped working: “It’s been a busy ten years for Jessica! She’s been an amazing mom while raising her kids. That’s a full-time job, too.”

Because over the past decades, Jessica Biel has devoted herself to series, in front of and behind the camera, notably with The Sinner, Candy And The Better Sisterwhile prioritizing her family life, raising the two sons she had with her husband Justin Timberlake.

She also explains that the two stars try to alternate periods where one of them is traveling or working full time in order to offer as much stability as possible to their children. “It doesn’t always work, because opportunities present themselves when they present themselves. You have to know how to grasp them…” she admits, before concluding about her double life as a present mother and actress: “It’s really very difficult.“

Matchbox will be available on October 9 on Apple TV, and also in France via myCANAL.
