James Mangold regrets Wolverine’s return after his Logan
against all odds, Hugh Jackman will join Ryan Reynolds in Deadpool 3. Which leaves the director of Logan, James Mangold, the last to have played with Wolverine in the cinema. Spoiler alert!
It must be said that the filmmaker had written a definitive end to the clawed mutant. Logan sent Wolverine six feet under and was to serve as a swan song to Hugh Jackman, after two decades with the X-Men. As a result, James Mangold moderately appreciates that Marvel allows itself to erase its end to bring Wolverine back in Deadpool 3. He confides in Variety:
“If I’m honest, there’s a part of me that would have liked the character to be left alone. Let this ending be left as it was… But afterwards, I also know that there will always be another Wolverine. There could be a baby Wolverine or a new cartoon Wolverine. There will always be stuff to wring out of this sponge so they will keep trying to squeeze it. In the end, I did my thing . I don’t think Logan was successful because we ended Wolverine. I ended my story.”
Deadpool 3 will be released in cinemas on May 3, 2024 and will be included in the Marvel Universe for the first time.
