A bicycle! : a road trip to life and a beautiful story of friendship (trailer)
Mathias Mlekuz returns with a fairly personal feature film, which moved the Angoulême and Valenciennes festival.
A bicycle! was presented as a global preview at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, where he was notably rewarded Public price. He received the same prize during the 2 Valenciennes Film Festival and during the meetings in Cannes.
The trailer promises a film that is both funny and moving. Mathias’ son lost his life during a bicycle trip he had undertaken from La Rochelle to Istanbul. To pay tribute to him, the father decides to make the same trip from the Atlantic to the Black Sea, in the company of his dog and His longtime friend Philippe.
The film is directed by Mathias Mlekuzwhich also plays the role of the father. After his first film Curehe reiterates his collaboration with Philippe Rebbot. In addition to being his acolyte in the film, the actor, screenwriter and director also participated in writing.
We also note that the names of the two protagonists are the same as those of the actors. We then wonder if it is a fiction, a documentary, or a little of both … Mathias Mlekuz explains at the microphone of France Inter ::
“For a very long time I waited for my son to resuscitate. I thought that if I was doing everything, it would come back, it would appear to me. And it was heartbreaking to see that the places accumulated and that he was still not there. I was in the places where he had played, where he had passed, and I did not see him (…) The question was that: where to find my son? (…) Hence this first sentence that I pronounce in church: if I have to find it, it will be in death more than in life. The film proves the opposite. Since his departure, my life has necessarily changed but I have learned to open my heart, I have been much more in life, in the present moment. »»
Bicycle is Mathias Mlekuz’s second film as director. The film comes out indoors February 26. Here is the trailer:
