Charlotte Gainsbourg is Gisèle Halimi in the trailer for L’Affaire Marie-Claire
A historical film dedicated to the famous Bobigny trial, which helped advance the right to abortion in France.
Charlotte Gainsbourg plays Gisèle Halimi in The Marie-Claire Affairthe new film by Lauriane Escaffre and Yvo Muller dedicated to the famous Bobigny trial, which contributed to changing French legislation on abortion.
The trailer takes us back to November 1972. At the Bobigny court, Marie-Claire Chevalier, 16, is on trial for having had an illegal abortion after being raped. Her mother and the women who helped her are also being prosecuted. To ensure their defense, Gisèle Halimi decides to lead a fight that goes far beyond the scope of this trial.
The official synopsis: “At the Bobigny court, an extraordinary trial shakes the whole of France. Marie-Claire Chevalier, 16, is accused of having an illegal abortion. At the helm, her mother and all the women who helped her. Their lawyer, Gisèle Halimi, makes a crazy, insane bet: she asks them not to plead guilty. Gisèle is going to do what has never been done before, she is going to accuse and attack the law, at the risk of losing everything.”
Presented in a special screening at the Cannes Film Festival and this week in preview at the Angoulême French-speaking Film Festival, The Marie-Claire Affair will also bring together Cécile de France, Grégory Gadebois and Saül Benchetrit.
The film will be released in cinemas on November 4 in French cinemas.
