She shares the poster for this Christmas drama, written by her son, with Helen Mirren and Toni Colette.

Almost 50 years old, Kate Winslet embarked on a new challenge. She has nothing to prove as an actress, and it is with the director’s cap that we will soon discover her in Goodbye Junea Christmas film on a family in crisis that will be released on December 24 on Netflix.

Hellen Mirren embodies June of the title role, a matriarch whose health state brings together her four children and their father during the holiday season. “”When the house is struck by the fear of a potential loss, their mother, young, decides to orchestrate her own decline in her own terms, bringing the family together through humor and frankness“, describe Variety.

The design of the film is itself a family affair. The script of Goodbye June is signed Joe Anders, who is none other than the son Kate Winslet had with director Sam Mendes. She explained to Deadline What to leave someone else staging this scenario would have been like “receive a stab in the belly“, and it was time for her to cross the course:

“”I have been on enough film sets to find out what works and what does not work … I had wonderful experiences with Francis Lee and Todd Haynes, who taught me a lot. It’s great to have made my first film the year of my 50th birthday as a woman. I am happy.“”

As for Lee MillerWinslet is also a producer of the film. She also plays one of June’s children, and will reply to Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall or Stephen Mercant.

Goodbye June will benefit from an in-room outing in Great Britain, on December 12, before its online on Netflix.
