After Spider-Man, the director of Brand New Day will make a film about other cult heroes

After the success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Destin Daniel Cretton is tackling another cult franchise with the film adaptation of Hawaii Five-O.

Destin Daniel Cretton, director of Spider-Man: Brand New Dayhas just been hired by Paramount to direct a new adaptation of Hawaii Five-Ofamous American detective series known in France under the title Hawaii State Policeand became cult thanks to its very brassy theme song composed by Morton Stevens.

The screenplay will be written by Chris Bremner, already author of Bad Boys for Lifewith Will Smith.

However, the project is still in its early stages and no plot details have yet been revealed, reports Deadlinewho revealed the information.

Created by Leonard Freeman, Hawaii Five-O had begun in 1968 and had become, by the time of its final episode in 1980, the longest-running detective series in American television history. Jack Lord played Steve McGarrett, captain of an elite Hawaii State Police unit tasked with fighting organized crime on the archipelago.

A new version was then launched by CBS in 2010. Carried in particular by Alex O’Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park, it lasted ten seasons, until 2020, for a total of 240 episodes.

Hollywood had already tried several times to transpose Hawaii Five-O in the cinema, without ever succeeding in making the project a reality. This time, Paramount hopes to finally bring the famous police officers of the archipelago to the big screen.

Obviously, Cretton’s next film will be closely followed since Spider-Man: Brand New Day became a huge success at the worldwide box office. The film has exceeded 2.4 billion dollars in revenue and now places itself in history as the third biggest global success of all time, behind Avatar And Avengers: Endgame.
