Stephen King already validates Mike Flanagan’s Carrie
A few weeks before its release on Prime Video, the new adaptation of the cult novel receives a big boost from its author.
Mike Flanagan already has one of the best possible supports for his new adaptation of Carrie: that of Stephen King himself.
The author of the novel published in 1974 has just discovered the Prime Video mini-series and seems particularly convinced by this new version. A boost that doesn’t come out of nowhere, since King is himself executive producer of the series, alongside Mike Flanagan in particular. The two had already collaborated from afar on the adaptation of Doctor Sleep, the sequel to Shining, for the cinema in 2019…
On Threads, the author delivered his verdict bluntly:
“Mike Flanagan’s version of CARRIE is absolutely brilliant. What she has to say on social media is shocking and true.”
A weighty validation for this fifth adaptation of the novel, which this time transposes the story of Carrie White to the age of social networks.
The series still follows this ostracized teenager, long protected and isolated by her mother, who enters a public high school. She gradually discovers her supernatural powers, while the humiliation and harassment of which she is a victim take on a new dimension with the Internet.
Summer H. Howell plays Carrie, opposite Samantha Sloyan, Matthew Lillard, Siena Agudong, Josie Totah and Amber Midthunder. In this new version, school bullying becomes viral and social networks play a central role in the teenager’s descent into hell.
Stephen King is not the only member of his family to have been seduced by this new Carrie.
His son Joe Hill, also a writer, shared the trailer on Threads, explaining that it almost made him cry.
“I was watching this Carrie trailer on Instagram and thinking it looked so good and suddenly I found myself holding back tears. That’s never happened to me watching a trailer. Maybe I’m getting a little sentimental at fifty years old, I don’t know. But it looks really great. Mike Flanagan really knows how to do it.”
After Brian De Palma in 1976, Carrie underwent several adaptations, notably on television in 2002 and in the cinema in 2013 with Chloë Grace Moretz. Mike Flanagan now intends to tell King’s story in a contemporary context, where humiliations can spread in seconds on social networks.
All eight episodes of Carrie will be available all at once on Prime Video on October 7, 2026.
