What does Halle Berry think of the new X-Men Tornado?

“I’m sure she’ll tear it up!” Halle Berry enthusiastically welcomes the arrival of Maya Boyd in the Marvel Universe, to succeed her.

After having played Tornado in four films of the first saga X-MenHalle Berry obviously has an opinion on the one who will now succeed her. And obviously, she has no desire to play guardian of the temple.

Asked by PEOPLE during the Create & Cultivate festival in Los Angeles, the 60-year-old actress reacted to the casting of Maya Boyd, chosen to play Ororo Munroe in the new Marvel universe.

“I’m sure she’ll tear it up. Do you see what I mean? Yes, there are other people who are going to play Tornado. But no, that’s not a problem: my Tornado was my Tornado, and I really wish him all the best. I’m really looking forward to seeing what his version will be. I’m sure she’ll tear it up!”

Halle Berry discovered the character in X-Men in 2000, before reprising the role in X2, X-Men: The Last Stand And X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Her version of the mutant capable of controlling the elements has since become one of the most emblematic of the saga.

Maya Boyd, 23, will now take up the torch in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Accustomed to musical comedy, particularly in & Juliet And Merrily We Roll Alongshe was officially presented as the new Tornado during Disney’s D23 showcase.

For Berry, however, it is not really a question of replacing his interpretation. Each actress must be able to take on such a well-known character and give her her own personality:

“That’s what I like and it was already the same with Catwoman (which she played in 2004). Everyone has their own version of this character and their own way of internalizing it.”

Directed by Jake Schreier, the new X-Men will notably bring together Kit Connor as Cyclops, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Christopher Abbott as Charles Xavier and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost.

The film is expected in cinemas on May 3, 2028 in France.
