Avengers: Endgame (again) dominates the global box office and is getting closer to Avatar

With its release event, the Marvel blockbuster rakes in $86 million more and is only $39 million behind Avatar’s all-time record.

Available on video for years, Avengers: Endgame yet attracted $26 million in 3,060 American theaters this weekend. Internationally, the film did even better with an additional $60 million. Or 86 million dollars worldwide for its release.

Finally, the new animated film from DreamWorks, The Island of Memoriesbegins sluggishly in fifth place with only $12.8 million in 4,548 theaters. The film did not make more sparks abroad, with 7.8 million collected in 34 markets. Its worldwide total barely reached $20.6 million, while its production budget stood at $80 million. Universal will therefore have to hope that the film finds its audience over time, as The Wild Robot Or GOATtwo original animated films which largely benefited from word of mouth after their release.
