Criminal Minds will (again) end after 20 seasons
The detective series will end with the next season of Evolution. A final chapter expected in 2027, after twenty years of investigations within the FBI.
Here we go again for one last lap.
Criminal Minds will bow out with its season 20, Variety announces.
Launched in 2005, the detective series, stopped for the first time in 2020 by the CBS channel, was relaunched in 2022 under the title Criminal Minds: Evolution, to accompany the launch of the Paramount+ platform. It will therefore end after twenty seasons in total.
Season 19 was put online between last May and July. The production has not yet communicated a broadcast date for this final round of episodes, but it is expected in 2027.
Showrunner and executive producer of the series, Erica Messer reacted to this announcement with emotion:
“It’s difficult to put into words what Criminal Minds meant to everyone who was lucky enough to be a part of this extraordinary adventure, first on CBS for fifteen seasons, then on Paramount+ for five more. As we suddenly have to prepare for the end of this chapter, I especially feel immense gratitude to our incredible cast, our writers, our directors and the entire crew, who poured their hearts into this series. And of course to the fans around the world, whose unwavering loyalty made it possible Criminal Minds crosses two decades. We look forward to sharing this season 20 with them and celebrating the legacy of this special series that we built together.
From its beginnings, Criminal Minds follows members of the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, a team of profilers tasked with studying the nation’s most dangerous criminals to stop them before they strike again. And this time, there will be no new resurrection: season 20 will mark the end of the story.
In France, Criminal Minds: Evolution is broadcast on TF1. The new 18th season is scheduled from Wednesday November 11, 2026 at 9:10 p.m.
