After Disclosure Day, Steven Spielberg will direct his first western

The filmmaker confirms that he will tackle this essential Hollywood genre, which he has “avoided for a long time”.

After his return to extraterrestrials, a genre he has known like the back of his hand since 1977 and Encounters of the Third KindSteven Spielberg is going to try something totally new: a western!

The Hollywood filmmaker has never really set his cameras in the wide open spaces of the West. But that could soon change. During a public lecture at the South by Southwest festival, Steven Spielberg revealed that he is currently developing a western, which should be his next film after Disclosure Day.

He admits to having “evaded the genre for decades”while confirming

“I can’t reveal anything yet, but I have a Westen project in development. And it’s going to hurt (kiss ass)!”

The director also slipped that he would like to shoot this film in Texas – perhaps a nod to audiences, with the festival taking place in Austin. Pressed to say more, Spielberg limited himself to a few clues:

“There will be horses. There will be guns. But there won’t be any tropes. I can tell you: I want to avoid western stereotypes.”

Until then, he will make science fiction with Disclosure Day, dedicated to UFO phenomena, which will be released in cinemas this summer. And Steven Spielberg insists: he firmly believes in extraterrestrial life:

“When President Obama said he believed there was life elsewhere, I thought, ‘My God, this is perfect for Disclosure Day. It’s incredible.’ Then, two days later, he walked back his remarks and explained that he was mainly talking about life in the cosmos… But which, of course, everyone should believe. No one should think that we are the only intelligent civilization in the entire universe. VoWe should all read what has been published on the subject and look at the quantity of documentaries released since 2018. I don’t know any more than you, but I have a very strong suspicion: we are probably not alone on Earth at the moment…” And this will precisely be the theme of Disclosure Day.
