The latest in the list to swap the long format for the short is Alfonso Cuaron with Disclaimer*. Revealed to the general public thanks to And your mom tooawarded the prize for best screenplay at the Venice Film Festival, the Mexican director has shone in all genres with Harry Potter: The Prisoner of Azakabanthe apocalyptic film The Sons of Manlooking towards the stars in Gravity – for which he won the Oscar for best director – before setting it down in his home country in Rome – Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Known for his triumph in cinema, he is now seeking glory on television with his first series, premiered this year at the Mostra, and starring the Oscar-winner Cate BlanchettThe first trailer has just been released and it gives off a strange feeling of anguish.

Adapted from the novel Revealedwritten by American Renée Knight and published in 2015, the series features Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett), a famous presenter who built her reputation on the many misdeeds of others that she revealed. One day, she finds in her mailbox an anonymous manuscript telling her entire life, even her biggest secret.

The waterer watered seeks to discover who is the author of these pages and finds herself facing her past that she will have to confront before it destroys the lives of those close to her – her husband played by Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat, The Dictator), and his son played Louis Partridge (Pistol, Enola Holmes).

What is this secret? The trailer keeps the suspense going. Instead, a discontinuous montage, as the title scrolls, reveals shocking images: first Cate Blanchett questioned before nearly being run over, Sacha Baron Cohen disconcerted, a man running for his life, a couple facing the sea, etc. The music accompanies the tension that emerges from the whole thing – playing on the nerves of the viewer who wants to know more.

While the female voice-over addresses us directly and warns us of the dangers of fiction, of the manipulative power it possesses: “Pay attention to the narration and its construction.”

We’ll have to wait to find out more about this psychological thriller. Also in the cast are: Leila George (Mortal Engines), Kevin Kline (A Fish Named Wanda), Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Power of the Dog, The Road) And Jung Ho-yeon (Squid Game).

Disclaimer* will consist of 7 episodes. The first two will be released on October 11 on AppleTV+ followed by a new episode every week until November 15.
