Alyssa Milano got Shannen Doherty fired from Charmed: “It’s her or me!”

In the Let’s Be Clear podcast, Shannen Doherty And Holly Marie Combs look back on their years as witches, and on the confusion that caused the drama to degenerate behind the scenes with Alyssa Milano. Disputes which led production to fire Doherty in 2001.

The former star of Charmed explains that she was the highest paid of the three actresses, “because I was the one the network initially hired, I was the name the network validated on Charmed. And I think that’s what started the hostilities with Alyssa.”

Holly Marie Combs seems to confirm and says he asked production why Shannen Doherty had been fired. They responded : “We didn’t intend to do it. But our backs were against the wall. We basically found ourselves in a position where it was one or the other. We were literally told: it’s her or me! Alyssa threatened to sue us, based on a hostile work environment!”

According to the former Piper Halliwell, Milano compiled a file and documented every moment “where she felt uncomfortable on set for some reason.” And Combs clarified: “There was no fight on set, there were no harsh words exchanged. Everything happened behind the scenes. Everything happened in our trailers. Nobody never noticed anything.”

Finally, the actress reveals that the situation was made even more complicated by the love stories that were going on behind the scenes at that time. Because Alyssa Milano was going out with Brian Krausewho played the husband of Holly Marie Combs on the screen, while Shannen Doherty was going out with Julian McMahon, who played Milano’s love interest in the series. We can then imagine the tensions that must have reigned on the set.

But twenty years later, Shannen Doherty assures him: “I just want everyone to know that there is no hatred anymore. The past is definitely buried. We don’t really talk about it among ourselves anymore. It comes up because it’s a question that people ask me very regularly. Fans often ask me why I left Charmed. So this is what happened…”
