Eric Dane and Julian McMahon were also not entitled to the honors of the traditional sequence.

Even extended, the segment In Memoriam of the Oscars unfortunately cannot honor everyone.

After having already raised eyebrows in France last year by forgetting Alain Delon, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had nevertheless expanded this year the sequence dedicated to the missing, due to the large number of notable figures who have died in recent months. Among them: Catherine O’Hara, Robert Duvall, Robert Redford, Diane Keaton and Rob Reiner.

The tribute to Robert Redford was notably marked by the appearance of Barbra Streisand, who performed some verses from The Way We Werethe song from the film Our best years in which they shared the poster. Several stars also took to the stage to greet Rob Reiner, from Kiefer Sutherland to Meg Ryan, while Diane Keaton was treated to a longer segment presented by Rachel McAdams (see below).

But despite this expanded version, some names were not mentioned during the television broadcast. Among those absent, we will inevitably regret the forgetting of the French legend Brigitte Bardot, who died at the end of last year. But also the absence of actor James Van Der Beek, star of Dawson but also the cult film The Laws of Attraction. Fans of Grey’s were also able to deplore the absence of Eric Dane, and those of Charmed that of Julian McMahon.

All were included in the official list published on the Academy website a posteriori. But the sequence was obviously not long enough to put them on screen.

Like every year, this selection In Memoriam is imperfect and will be a source of debate among moviegoers.
