One Battle after another in a position of strength before the 2026 BAFTA nominations

One Battle after another in a position of strength before the 2026 BAFTA nominations

The prestigious British ceremony will give a large place to the film by Paul Thomas Anderson. Two French animated films will be in the running.

Another record for One Battle after another.

After being a hit with Actor Awards (formerly SAG Awards), Paul Thomas Anderson’s film received 16 citations in the pre-list of nominations for the 2026 BAFTAs. No feature film had previously done better. This shows whether political satire will be favourite. It has 16 citations out of 25 categories in total, with Best Film, Direction, Adapted Screenplay and also the entire cast in the running: Chase Infiniti, Leonardo DiCaprio, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro and Sean Penn. Behind, the main competitors will be Hamnet And Sinners which follow with 14 quotes each

This Longlist, as the English call it, is a pre-selection ahead of the “real” BAFTAS nominations which will be announced at the end of the month. The BAFTA Film Awards ceremony will then be held on February 22 at the Royal Festival Hall in London,

We can note that beyond the Anglo-Saxon heavyweights, foreign films have had difficulty finding a place. The French production of Iranian Jafar Panahi will be poorly represented. The Palme d’Or is only cited in original screenplay and film in non-English language. Same for The Secret Agentthe much-loved Brazilian thriller starring Wagner Moura. And the same for the Franco-Spanish Sirāt.

To see the French shine, we will have to rely on the animation category: Arco, crowned in Annecy last year, and Amélie and the metaphysics of the tubes, will face in particular Zootopia 2, in a category that has become “family”, which will also count… Lilo & Stitch in live action.
