Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen soon reunited in a new series
Father and son in the city as on screen in Happy Jack, a new comedy for the AMC channel.
The Sheens have their sitcom.
Charlie Sheen and Martin Sheen will be reunited in the cast of Happy Jack, a new multi-camera comedy ordered by AMC and AMC+, in which they will play… a father and his son.
The series will have six episodes for its first season, filming of which will begin early next year in Los Angeles, for broadcast scheduled for 2027. And those nostalgic for sitcoms should recognize the setting: Happy Jack will be filmed in front of an audience, in the Warner Bros. studios, those where the episodes of Friends were notably filmed.
Charlie Sheen will play Jack, an eternal good-for-nothing who nevertheless managed to raise two daughters of whom he is very proud. His father, played by Martin Sheen, can also claim a good part of the credit. When Sam, the rebellious girl, returns home to introduce her new companion, Jack discovers to his amazement that the latter, a former banker converted into a van life guru, is exactly his age. Enough to put Jack before a choice: continue to think only of himself or take advantage of this opportunity to finally become the father his daughters need.
Jim Patterson and Matt Ross, former writers of My Uncle Charlie and Mike & Molly, will helm the series as writers, executive producers and showrunners. Charlie Sheen will also executive produce.
And this is obviously not the first time that the two actors have shared the screen: Martin Sheen was notably nominated for an Emmy for his appearance in My Uncle Charlie, where he played Harvey, the father of Rose (Charlie’s harassing neighbor). They also played father and son in Wall Street and No Code of Conduct, without forgetting their reunion in Cadence, directed by Martin Sheen, Free Money and Hot Shots! 2.
Charlie Sheen had not been at the center of a series since Anger Management, which ended in 2014. His return to television with his father therefore seems particularly symbolic:
“I’ve always heard that the moments that really matter come when they’re supposed to happen. The great people at AMC were a big part of deciding that that moment was now. It’s no secret that it’s been a while, and I’m thrilled to be returning to television in such a big way, on an equally great show. The team is back together – let’s just say it’s time to give the audience what they want.”
