The actors of One Battle After Another set a new record
7 nominations for the 2026 Actor Awards — formerly SAG Awards — for Leonardo DiCaprio and his band of anarchists.
Awards season is entering its most revealing phase.
With the announcement of the nominations for the 2026 Actor Awards – formerly SAG Awards – the war between American stars has begun.
One Battle After Another by Paul Thomas Anderson just broke a record. The action epic produced by Warner Bros. offers 7 nominations, an absolute record in the history of the ceremony. The film is cited for best ensemble cast, stunts, and has five individual nominations: Leonardo DiCaprio, as well as Chase Infiniti, Benicio Del Toro, Sean Penn and Teyana Taylor. A raid which confirms its status as the steamroller of the season.
Just behind, Sinners by Ryan Coogler stands out as the other big heavyweight of the year with 5 nominations, equaling the second best total ever recorded at the Actor Awards. The film even creates a surprise by entering the stunt category. The film also places Michael B. Jordan in the lead among actors, as well as Miles Caton (supporting male role) and Wunmi Mosaku (supporting female role), not to mention an ensemble casting nomination.
The two films will also come face to face in this premier category, alongside the casts of Frankenstein by Guillermo del Toro, Hamnet by Chloé Zhao and Marty Supreme by Josh Safdie.
In the American press, the parallel is starting to emerge in view of the Oscars: the confrontation between One Battle After Another and Sinners is increasingly reminiscent of the La La Land / Moonlight duel in 2016. On the one hand, a film which dominates the season, accumulates records and trophies. On the other, a work carried by a more underground fervor, an emotional and political charge likely to make the difference on a preferential ballot at the Oscars. It remains to be seen whether history will repeat itself.
Among the actors, the race for the leading male role will possibly be denser than expected: favorite Leonardo DiCaprio will face Michael B. Jordan as an outsider. But the two must now deal with Timothée Chalamet, recent winner of the Critics Choice for Marty Supreme, without forgetting the Brazilian Wagner Moura for The Secret Agent, very curiously absent from these nominations, but who should definitely be there at the time of the Oscars.
Note that, on the television side, the nominations also had their share of shocks. Apple places The Studio first with five citations, including ensemble casting and nominations for Seth Rogen, Ike Barinholtz, Kathryn Hahn and Catherine O’Hara. Behind them, the neo-western series Landman and the Netflix political thriller The Diplomate confirm their status as sure values of the small screen.
