City of God director reunites Ralph Fiennes, Colin Farrell and Wagner Moura
Art will be a social satire by Fernando Meirelles, adapted from the French play by Yasmina Reza.
Three prestigious actors, a cult play… and a bitter satire on modern art.
Fernando Meirelles, director of The City of Godis preparing his 10th feature film, which will be called Art. It will be an adaptation of the famous play by Yasmina Reza (published in 1994).
The Brazilian filmmaker, who alternates between films in his country and productions in Hollywood, will sign a new English-language film, with three international stars in the cast: the British Ralph Fiennes and Colin Farrell, and the Brazilian Wagner Moura. They will play three friends whose balance will be shattered… because of an expensive whiteboard.
Because that’s all the salt of Art : the purchase of a minimalist work by one of them triggers a seemingly innocuous debate: what is art? A debate which will gradually bring to light resentments, jealousies and buried tensions.
The screenplay is by two-time Oscar winner Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons, The Father), who returns to this work… 30 years after having signed the English translation for the theater.
Created in 1994, Yasmina Reza’s play became a global phenomenon, with a series of adaptations and revivals, from the West End to Broadway, where it was still showing in 2025 with Bobby Cannavale, James Corden and Neil Patrick Harris.
With ArtMeirelles tackles material that is both funny and cruel, where behind the intellectual debates lies a fierce dissection of friendship and egos.
