Clueless will return to series with Alicia Silverstone

31 years after the cult 90s film, the actress will reprise the role of Cher Horowitz in a sequel ordered for the Paramount+ platform.

After almost never seeing the light of day, the Clueless sequel is finally saved. Initially developed at Peacock, the series has found a new home at Paramount+, which has just ordered a first season of six episodes.

Alicia Silverstone will return to her iconic role as Cher Horowitz, more than thirty years after the 1995 film. The story will take place in our time and will follow Cher who has become a successful businesswoman and accomplished mother… until her daughter enters high school. A new challenge that will make her feel completely clueless again.

The series will be written by Josh Schwartz (Gossip Girl, Newport Beach), Stephanie Savage and Jordan Weiss, with filming planned in Los Angeles in 2027.

“31 years ago, Cher Horowitz conquered audiences with her style, humor and optimism, making Clueless a huge success and a pop culture classic,” rejoices the head of original creations at Paramount+.

Released in 1995, Clueless, loosely inspired by Jane Austen’s Emma, had become a true generational phenomenon. In addition to Alicia Silverstone, the casting also revealed Paul Rudd and the late Brittany Murphy.

No release date has yet been announced.
