David Arquette will return to Scream 7

The Come back of assistant sheriff Dewey Riley … But how is it possible?

Casting Scream 7 continues to draw on the history of the saga. According to Deadline, David Arquette will resume his role in assistant sheriff Dewey Riley in the next film.

An emblematic character and adored by fans, Dewey had appeared for the first time in the original film of 1996. He was presented as Tatum Riley’s big brother (interpreted by Rose McGowan) and a awkward policeman trying to elucidate the murders that have occurred in Woodsboro.

Over the films, Dewey has become a central character of the franchise, in particular thanks to his love story with Gale Weathers, embodied by Courteney Cox. However, in Scream (2022), he died, murdered by Ghostface. We still do not know how the character will return in Scream 7but certainly that it will be a flashback … Unless the authors have found a parade to bring it back to life. It must be said that his assassination – by the previous creative team – had made fans furious.

In the casting, he will find Neve Campbell and above all Courteney Coxwhich will also resume its role as a Weathers scabies.

Two other actors who played characters who died in the franchise, Matthew Lillard And Scott Foleywould also have joined the cast. Lillard is known for having interpreted Stuart “Sté” Macher, one of the two killers of the first Scream (1996), while Foley embodied Roman Bridger, the main antagonist and Ghostface of Scream 3 (2000).

Scream 7 is scheduled to go out in France on February 25, 2026.
