Disney will shoot Hocus Pocus 3: the Sanderson sisters are back!
Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will reprise their roles for a new sequel, four years after the success of the 2nd part on Disney+.
The Sanderson sisters haven’t said their last word!
Hocus Pocus 3 is now officially in development at Disney. And the three witches will once again cast a bad spell on us: Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy will be back in the cast.
The project had already been mentioned as early as 2023 after the enormous success of Hocus Pocus 2 on Disney+. The sequel released in 2022, which saw the famous witches resurrected on Halloween night trying to regain their youth by stealing that of the children, had exploded the streaming charts. The film had notably accumulated 2.7 billion minutes viewed during its launch weekend and became the most watched original film on Disney+ over its first three days of operation.
Since then, the actresses have been actively pushing to relaunch the franchise without delay… especially after the almost thirty years that passed between the first 1993 film and its sequel.
Bette Midler had also said with humor: “If they want to do it, they should hurry, because time doesn’t pass…it rushes towards the finish line. Do it while we’re still breathing!“
The actress also revealed last year that she had finally read a first version of the script: “I found it brilliant. It excited me enormously. Now we’re trying to figure out what we really want to do, where to shoot, how much it will cost and all the logistics around it…”
For now, Hocus Pocus 3 remains at an early stage of development. We don’t even know who will direct. But Disney is reportedly considering a real theatrical release this time, in cinemas and not just in streaming. Proof that the studio still strongly believes in the popular potential of the Sanderson sisters.
