The creator of The Boys annoyed with fans unhappy with the final season

“What did you expect? A huge battle scene every episode?”

Do fans of The Boys want blood, explosions and superheroes that get cut to pieces in every episode? Very little for Eric Kripke.

Annoyed by the criticism aimed at the fifth and final season of his series, the creator of Prime Video’s trashy box responded rather sharply to Internet users who denounce “filler” episodes, deemed “useless” or “filler”. In an interview with TV Guide, Eric Kripke explains that he has seen “a lot of dissatisfaction online, to put it politely” around this final season. A reaction that he obviously doesn’t understand at all:

“What exactly were you waiting for? A huge battle scene every episode?”

The showrunner especially defends the choice to have taken time to develop the characters rather than only carrying out massacre scenes:

“None of the events of the final episodes would matter if we didn’t take the time to flesh out the characters.”

According to him, with a gallery of “14 or 15 characters”, it was impossible to conclude the series without delving into their trajectories:

“Television is the business of characters. I owe it to them all to humanize them and develop their stories.”

For Eric Kripke, the problem comes mainly from the fact that some spectators only consider spectacular action scenes to be “events”. However, according to him, season 5 does indeed contain “huge and completely crazy things”. Except he’s not necessarily talking about giant fights: “Sometimes a huge character change can be as big as a battle.”

The creator of The Boys even continues with a touch of annoyance:

“Apparently, if it’s not pure intrigue or someone shooting someone and going ‘pew pew pew,’ then people think there’s nothing going on. If that’s all you want, then you’re probably watching the wrong show.”

Just to remind us that the series has not completely forgotten its spectacular DNA, the finale of The Boys will also be screened in certain cinemas using 4DX technology in the United States, in addition to its broadcast on Prime Video.
