Consequence of the new deals signed with the unions, to bring the industry out of paralysis.
The social movement which has shaken up the small and big screen industry in recent months could have very concrete consequences for subscribers around the world. The very serious Wall Street Journal reports that, in the wake of the strike and the new deal signed with the screenwriters’ union, Netflix plans to increase the prices of its ad-free packages.
The streaming service discuss » internally of an increase on “ several markets around the world » and will probably first increase its subscriptions in the United States and Canada, according to a source cited by the Wall Street Journal. We do not yet know the possible new prices, nor the effective date.
We understand that content will now cost more to produce, since authors and actors will have to be better paid, within the framework of the agreement signed with the unions. And inevitably, this new cost will be passed on directly to the consumer.
Last July, the financial director of NetflixSpence Neumann, assured investors that the streamer did not intend to increase its prices again before the end of 2024. The company “ widely suspended » price increases after starting to deploy paid account sharing. “This year, most of our revenue growth comes from volume growth, driven by new paid subscriptions. And this is largely due to our rollout of paid sharing. This is our main revenue accelerator this year“, he confided.
The latest price increase of Netflix dates back to the first half of 2022.
