French box office: Tron Ares in slow motion, One battle after another in the million
Paul Thomas Anderson had never done so much in France. The new releases of the week disappoint.
Theaters are having trouble filling up this fall and the month of October is struggling to revive activity.
It is One Battle after another which remains at the top of the French box office for its third week of operation. Paul Thomas Anderson’s film confirms its good performance and attracts 230,000 new spectators, a very limited drop of 27%. The crazy thriller directed by Leonardo DiCaprio reached almost a million admissions (970,000 exactly on Tuesday evening), which the filmmaker had never achieved before in France.
The big news, Tron: Aresdid no better than third place, with a very slow start at 200,000 admissions (without AVP) for its first week, despite a large number of 487 copies. Too average a launch for Disney, and very far from the start of Tron: Legacywhich had already passed 500,000 fans in 2011 for its first week (AVP included).
This third Tron is thus beaten by Didier Bourdon, one of the big names at the box office in recent years. French comedy It was better tomorrow attracted 230,000 curious people (thanks to numerous previews), a very solid start, not far from the hit Guarded Hunt (330,000 first week admissions in 2024).
We note that Gabby and the Magic House – The moviederived from the Netflix cartoon, displays only 160,000 admissions from 511 copies. It’s not much, but Gabby is certainly waiting for the All Saints’ Day holidays, at the end of the week, to make her butter.
Finally, we can note in this French box office the good performance of the Iranian Palme d’Or, A simple accidentwhich saw its attendance drop by only 36% in the second week, with 130,000 new entries and a solid total of 350,000 tickets sold in total.
Disappointment on the other hand for Walk or die. The dystopia adapted from Stephen King, by the director of Hunger Gamestotals less than 270,000 entries after two weeks.
