Dragons: filming of the live film begins, with Nick Frost as reinforcements (photos)
Who plays who in Dean DeBlois’ film? Here are the first information.
Dean DeBlois has just announced that he has started filming his live adaptation of Dragons. “First day of filming! We can’t wait to get started!”writes the co-director of the original animated film, released in theaters in 2010, who also wrote the screenplay for this new blockbuster.

After two sequels and animated series, the DreamWorks saga will return to the big screen, but this time in live action. Which implies a change in casting, since several original voice actors are too old to play the heroes of the story. Or their physique does not correspond to the build of their character.
Alone Gerard ButlerStoick’s voice actor “the bully”chief of the Viking village and father of the young hero, returns for this new version of Dragons. Here are the actors expected alongside him in this family film scheduled for June 2025 at the cinema.
Mason Thamesrevealed by Black Phone (in 2021), plays Harold Horrib’ Haddock III, the hero of Dragons. Before him, it was Jay Baruchel who lent him his voice since 2010.
Nico Parkerwho played Joel’s (Pedro Pascal) daughter in the early episodes of The Last of Us, was chosen to interpret Astrid, dubbed by America Ferrera in original version. At 20, the daughter of the star of WestworldThandiwe Newton, is already famous thanks to the hit series or Dumboby Tim Burton.
Nick Frost, Simon Pegg’s accomplice in the Cornetto Trilogy, was chosen to play Gobber, one of the leading adults in the saga, close friend of the village chief. Until now he had the voice of Chris Edgerly.
For the moment, these are the only actors announced in the casting of Dragons. The creatures, led by Toothless, will be digitally animated, but we do not yet know their precise design.
