Dwayne Johnson responds to the Smashing Machine crash
The actor reacted to the flop of the film in American theaters and assumes: “This film changed my life. Thank you brother for believing in me.”

His ambitious project, SMASHING Machinedrama signed A24 – supposed to pass it into the category of respected actors (even honored) – has just recorded the worst start of his career: only $ 5.9 million harvested in the United States for his opening weekend … It is little. But The Rock was not born from the last rain. He refuses to be brought down by this bad unexpected score and regains control of the story, by publishing a long message on Instagram. In essence, he tempers the failure and ensures that experience was worth the candle:
“In our world of storytelling, we cannot control the results of the box office. What we can control, on the other hand, is his performance and his commitment to disappear completely in a role. And I will always run towards this opportunity.”
Malin, Dwayne Johnson, does not forget to greet her director, Benny Safdie, and to underline that he is no longer the same actor, despite everything:
“This film changed my life. Thank you brother for believing in me. It was an honor to transform me for you.”
Presented in preview in Venice, where Safdie won the prize for staging, SMASHING Machine had been widely praised by criticism. But the film, centered on the trajectory of the fighter of MMA Mark Kerr, finished third in the box office, far from the forecasts (8 to 15 million). With a budget of 50 million and a massive promo (Venice, Toronto, Festivals included), the flop is a real blow for A24.
For Johnson, it is even a sad record: below 8.5 million Faster In 2010, his previous “worse” departure in theaters. But the actor would obviously like that we mainly retain his metamorphosis.
