Eddie Murphy talks about his return to Beverly Hills Cop
The actor particularly talks about the difficulty of action scenes, now that he is “no longer in his twenties”.
After several years of absence from the big screen during the 2010s, Eddie Murphy made his comeback in the role of Dolemite in a 2019 Netflix biopic about an early stand-up comedian. Since then, we have seen him regularly in platform productions (You People, A Prince in New York 2), but what made the most noise was the confirmation of a fourth installment of its most famous franchise: Beverly Hills Cop. This comedy will soon be broadcast on Netflix.
In an interview given to People, Eddie Murphy talks about the difficulty of shooting the action sequences of this new chapter, since it no longer has the same energy as forty years ago, during the first film: “It was hard. I played Axel Foley when I was in my twenties. I’m not in my twenties anymore. It was an action film so it was difficult. But we made it!” Upon its release, this fourth part will mark the fortieth anniversary of the saga, initiated in 1984.
5 films and series not to be missed on Prime Video in December 2023
The original cast is expected to return alongside him in Beverly Hills Cop 4 : Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser and of course Bronson Pinchot in the legendary role of Serge. But since good news never comes alone, Kevin Bacon, Joseph Gordon-Levitt And Taylor Paige join the original team to perfect the project.
Eddie Murphy fully embraces his preference for comfort over stunts: “It’s a physical film so I have to do a lot of physical things…I like to stay on the couch, I don’t like to jump around and shoot and run. And I had to jump and shoot and run. And as a result… At the end of the film I had a knee brace and my back was in pain. But the film will be special.”
Beverly Hill Cop 4: Axel F. is directed by Mark Molloy and will be available in 2024 on Netflix. Here is its trailer:
