Emilia Pérez and Jacques Audiard crowned at the European Film Awards

The French film took over the 37th European cinema ceremony, winning 5 trophies. Karla Sofía Gascón won Best Actress.

Jacques Audiard succeeds Justine Triet. The 37th European Film Awards ceremony was held this Saturday in Lucerne, Switzerland. And it is Emilia Pérez which was crowned, leaving with the main trophies, including that of Best Film, a year after the victory ofAnatomy of a Fall.

Jacques Audiard also won the prize for Best Director, Best Screenwriter and Karla Sofia Gascón won Best Actress. Juliette Welfling also won the statuette for Best Editing.

The French cinema made a raid on the evening, since the Best Actor prize was won by Abou SagareGuinean actor in French film The Story of Souleymanedirected by Boris Lojkine.

Furthermore, in the rest of the awards, Best Photo and Best Special Effects were won by The Substanceunder the direction of Frenchwoman Coralie Fargeat.

Note that these European Film Awards are a good indicator for the upcoming awards season, since in recent years, the winners were called The Favorite by Yorgos Lanthimos, Drunk by Thomas Vinterberg or even Without filter by Ruben Östlund, before Anatomy of a Fall last year.
